Regulation flag football field size, rulebook by rulebook
There is no single regulation flag football field. Each rulebook sets its own. NFL FLAG, USA Football and IFAF use 25 x 70 yards with 10-yard end zones for 5v5, RISE uses 25 x 50 yards for 6v6, and NFHS high school fields are 40 or 53 1/3 yards wide with 80 or 100 yards between the goal lines.

Is there a regulation flag football field size?
Only within a rulebook. Each league or governing body publishes its own field, and the sizes range from 25 x 50 yards in youth 6v6 to 53 1/3 x 120 yards in high school.

Sort any column to compare. "Not specified" means the rulebook we opened does not give that number, so the league or site decides it. For how each format plays on these fields, see the 6v6 rules and 8v8 rules pages, or every rule side by side in flag football rules by league.
How big is a 5v5 flag football field?
In the NFL FLAG, USA Football and IFAF rulebooks, 25 yards wide and 70 yards long with two 10-yard end zones, which leaves 50 yards between the goal lines.
NFL FLAG also allows a shorter option B: 25 x 64 yards with 7-yard end zones. Both NFL FLAG layouts put the first down at midfield and a no-run zone 5 yards before midfield and 5 yards before each end zone. The referee spots the ball in the middle of the field, never closer than 10 yards to a sideline.
Two websites give a wider summary. The nflflag.com rules page and the i9 Sports basic rules page both describe a field 30 yards wide and 70 yards long. If your league marks its own field, ask which width it uses. The 5v5 rules and NFL FLAG rules pages cover the rest of the format.
How big is a 6v6 flag football field?
RISE uses 25 x 50 yards and Under the Lights 25 to 30 x 50 yards, each including 5-yard end zones. The FNL rules do not give a field size.
Those fields leave 40 yards between the goal lines, with the first down at midfield. FNL also plays for a first down at midfield and marks no-run zones 5 yards before midfield and each end zone, but leaves the dimensions to the site.
How big is a high school flag football field?
The NFHS field diagrams show four options: 40 or 53 1/3 yards wide, and 80 or 100 yards between the goal lines, each with 10-yard end zones.
In feet, the NFHS diagrams show widths of 120 or 160 feet, 240 or 300 feet between the goal lines, and 30-foot end zones. The fourth option was added for 2026-27 and, like the field choice itself, comes through state association adoption. The diagrams also mark 3-, 10- and 14-yard lines and team boxes.
Your state association decides which option its schools use, so check the state adopted rulebook. The 7v7 rules page covers the rest of the NFHS game and how states adopt it.
How big is an 8v8 flag football field?
The Sun Bowl 8v8 rules use 80 yards between the goal lines with 10-yard end zones and a width of at least 40 yards. iFlag 8v8 Screen Coed uses 46 yards with 7-yard end zones.
The Sun Bowl field is divided into 4 zones of 20 yards, and each zone is a line to gain. iFlag 8v8 Contact lists a standard field of 60 x 53 yards with 7-yard end zones and allows longer fields when a site needs them.
Can a league play on a smaller field?
Most rulebooks allow it. IFAF lets organizers change each half by up to 5 yards, and USA Football notes that some sites use smaller fields.
IFAF sets limits on the change: a field of play no larger than 60 x 30 yards and no smaller than 40 x 20, with end zones at least 8 yards deep, and each half kept roughly square. iFlag 8v8 Contact allows fields from 60 to 120 yards long and 50 to 53 yards wide.
If you run the league, the flag football field dimensions guide shows how many fields fit on a soccer or football field, with buffers and setup equipment.
