How to run it

  1. LC lines up 4 yards off the widest receiver on the left and covers that receiver.
  2. RC lines up 4 yards off the widest receiver on the right and covers that receiver.
  3. N lines up 4 yards off the slot receiver and covers the slot receiver.
  4. S lines up 10 yards deep in the middle and plays the deep middle zone, coming downhill on a center release.
  5. R lines up 7 yards off the ball with a hand raised, at a slight angle, and rushes the QB on the snap.
  6. Center: S, coming downhill when the center releases.
  7. Run fit: R attacks, man defenders rally on the handoff, S is the last line.
  8. For younger divisions, shorten the deep depths by 2 to 3 yards.

The coverage read

Cover defenders play their receiver and trust S over the top. S reads the quarterback, breaks on anything deep, and comes downhill the moment the center releases.

  1. S FREE SAFETY
  2. N MAN ON SLOT
  3. R RUSH

When to call it

  • Against a team with a fast receiver who keeps getting deep.
  • When you want man coverage with help behind it.
