The Best NFL Flag Screen Plays

Screens are how you turn a short throw into a long gain. They get your best runner the ball in space, use the defense aggression against it, and answer a heavy rush. In flag, spacing and a lead blocker are all it takes.

Coaching tip: On a screen, the blocker shields the closest defender rather than chasing anyone. Teach him to get in the way, not to make a big hit, and the runner does the rest.

Jet Sweep

Trips Right
Screen on the move

The jet sweep is a screen in motion, handing off to a runner already at full speed.

Coaching point: Z comes in fast motion, takes the handoff, and beats the edge. The 5v5 run game lives here since the QB cannot run. Sell the fake pass.

Common questions

What is the best screen play in flag football?

The tunnel screen. The receiver slips behind the line while teammates wall off defenders, turning an aggressive rush into a big return for your best runner.

Are screens good against a blitz?

Yes. Screens are one of the best blitz answers. Let the rushers fly upfield, then get the ball behind them to an athlete in the space they left.

How do you block a screen in flag football?

Blockers shield the nearest defender by getting in the way, not by chasing or making contact downfield. The goal is to give the runner a clear lane, not a pancake.
