The Best NFL Flag Plays for 6U and 8U

At the youngest ages the goal is touches, spacing, and fun, not scheme. Keep routes short, keep the throw quick, and give every kid a clear job. These plays are built for small hands and short attention spans, and they still move the ball.

Coaching tip: Give every player a landmark, like a cone or a yard line, so they know exactly where to run. Young kids run to a spot far better than they run a route.

Quick Slants

Spread Right
Quick and fun

Short slants keep the ball out fast so little rushers cannot get home.

Common questions

What flag football plays work for 6U and 8U?

Keep it simple: all curls, a bubble screen, and short quick routes. Give every player a cone or yard line to run to so they know exactly where to go.

How do you coach flag football to young kids?

Use landmarks instead of route names, keep throws short and quick, and make sure every player gets touches. Reps and fun matter more than scheme at these ages.

Should young teams throw deep?

Rarely. Young quarterbacks complete short, quick throws far more often. Save the occasional deep ball as a fun surprise, not a base play.
