A club is a selection-based travel program. Players try out, make a roster, and compete in tournaments against other clubs, often year-round and out of state. That is different from a rec league in Rancho Mission Viejo, where anyone can sign up and every game is local.

Most clubs field teams from 8U through high school, and 10U is where the majority of players make the jump from rec to club. Younger divisions exist in the deepest markets. Each club lists the age groups it carries.

Most clubs in California hold tryouts in late summer and again in late winter, timed to the fall regional circuit and the spring road to the NFL FLAG Championships. Tryout dates are posted on each club's own site, so check the listing and follow them directly.

Club fees are higher than rec because they cover tournament entries, uniforms, and travel. Season fees commonly run a few hundred dollars, with travel on top of that. Many clubs run scholarship or financial-aid funds, so ask.

Increasingly, yes. Flag football is an NAIA and NJCAA championship sport and an NCAA emerging sport, and it debuts at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. The top clubs now place athletes on U.S. National Team rosters and into college programs.
